A wedding day has many parts and most of them require wedding musicians and music, or a CD player. Live music performed by good musicians will usually enhance the atmosphere of any occasion, especially at a wedding where music can be chosen that reflects the setting and of course the styles that the Bride and Groom prefer.
Here is a list of “wedding day moments” where wedding musicians are frequently used.
Civil Ceremony and Church Wedding
As guests arrive for the wedding ceremony and wait for the Bride.
This may be a nervous time, especially for the Groom, and the right choices of music can help sooth the nerves an entertain the guests.
Bride’s Entry Piece
This is perhaps the most notable piece of music and sometimes most difficult to choose. The traditional choice of “here comes the bride” or perhaps a more gentle sounds of Pachelbel’s Canon.
Music during the signing of the register
This period may take as long as 15 minutes and therefore will require more than one piece. If you have a church wedding with an organist, the organist can just fill-in until the exit music. However, some couples like to pick up to four pieces of music so that the time is filled with music they like.
The Bride and Groom’s exit music
This can be joyful and celebratory or it can be more subtle and contemporary – either way – the guests will soon be outside if the weather is good for the photographer.
Drinks Reception
A church wedding may use an organist, but for a drinks reception, there are many more choices of intruments. A harpist, a flute and guitar, a pianist and a string quartet are all options that fit into the atmosphere of a drinks reception very well.
Wedding Breakfast
This may last around two hours, so the choice of wedding musicians here is important. A gentle background sound is recommended as guests will be eating and chatting leading up to the speeches.
Evening Do – Live Band or Disco
The choice of a live band or disco often comes down to whether a live band of musicians can be afforded.
A disco can play all the contemporary songs and those that are appropriate for the occasion, but a live band may bring something extra to the atmosphere if the band has enough members to create a good contemporary sound. The minimum number of wedding musicians for this would be a five piece, but a seven or eight piece band with singers would be better.
